Payday Lending
Govenor Strickland signed the Bill, HB 545, passed by the state legislature to cap interest rates on Panday Lending at 28%. The Payday Lenders are now working to gather 241,000 signatures to place a referendum before voters in the fall to rescind that legislation and allow them to continue charging high interest rates (up to 391%). Our people deserve better than to be trapped in the cycle of debt by these Payday Loans.
The decision to sign or not to sign their petition is each adults decision, but we, the Elyria Sowers of Justice Network of the Catholic Action Commission of Lorain County urge you NOT to support the referendum petition drive. Let us help to turn around Lorain County's economy by standing up to those who attempt to make money off of those who can least afford to pay.
